Self Care - not just a bubble bath?

Whilst I do think that people probably realise that self care isn’t just a bubble bath. I think it’s worth talking about what it also is.

Side note though - those of us that have a bath in their house/apartment, how many people have baths? I will tell you now - in the last 3yrs I’ve had one bath at my own house. Generally I do like a shower better - part of it for me is time - I shower after training quickly so I can get back to clients and also when I finish work I have another before getting comfy and relaxed before dinner or before bed.

It’s not that I don’t have time for one in the evening, I could totally make time for it - but it’s a means to get clean. Not to just stop and relax and be present and still. I think I actually might create a space for a nice relaxing bath once a week, no phone, maybe some music and just a bit of stillness. I’ll report back on that.

Annnnnyway - back to the subject in hand - Self Care!

Self care will and does come in many form and it is all down to the individual person.

For me, an introvert, who works with people daily - it is quiet time, for myself. This could be just a moment of decompression, getting out in nature, or a dip in the sea. Or a coffee on my own. It can also be road trip with myself, a weekend away on my own. Picking up my guitar or doing one of those grown colouring books. Also it is doing a ‘big clean’ at home, picky snacks and a trash movie. Going to bed extra early.

Something else that is self care for me: journaling, making note of things I want & need to do so they don’t get forgotten. Training either weights or jiu jitsu. Spending quality time with friends and my partner.

Finally - some other important things that come under self care - at least from my perspective. Self discipline - especially for those areas that are important to you and that you’re working towards. Whether its diet, activity, mindlessly scrolling for extended periods where you could be doing something that will still serve you positively, (like having presence with your loved ones). Not spending time or minimising time with those that are negative or drain you and if you have to making time for yourself to recoup.

Have a think about what self care might be for you - see if any of these examples align and let me know, email me or message me on instragram or facebook. I love hearing from you and finding out how you connect with these blog posts.
